If there is one thing that I’ve learned since founding Raging Chicken Press about a year ago, it’s to welcome even the smallest bits of encouragement and recognition for the work we are doing–from reader’s emails and comments to reviews by fellow bloggers. Raging Chicken Press has become my second job as it has for several of our regular contributors. I am proud of the work we are doing, but am always cautious about getting ahead of ourselves.
Yesterday, May 9, 2012 was one of those days to feel good about. Our coverage of the Pittsburgh Opera Company giving a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for Education to Governor Corbett brought us more visitors in a single day than any other single day since we published our first issue in July 2011. Then tonight, after a couple of hours or editing, I got one more reason to go to bed happy: Raging Chicken Press made it to the national leaderboard on LeftyBlogs “Most Clicked Headlines” of the day! Check it out:
Pretty cool. I poked around some more and found out that not only we’re we on the “Most-Clicked” of the day, two of our articles–Walter Brasch’s “Fracking: PA Gags Physicians (Part 1)” and Scott Cannon’s, “ALERT: Luzerne County Gas Pipeline Mud Blowout by Dallas, PA”–made it to the weekly top 50 posts!
As I said, I’ve learned to cherish these moments. Here’s a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported Raging Chicken Press by writing and reporting, contributing monetarily, linking to our articles, circulating our articles on your networks, writing words of encouragement, joining our Facebook page, commenting, and doing a thousand other things. A special thanks to Raging Chicken Press Social Media Organizer, Sean Kitchen, for helping take Raging Chicken Press to the next level through his tireless work promoting Raging Chicken Press in every corner of the web.
It turned out to be a pretty good day. Oh! And while I’m feeling good about things, can you do me a solid? I want every reader of Raging Chicken Press to get on Rick Smith’s Facebook page or website and wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! He’s truly a voice that helps fuel our work and the growing progressive movement across the state. Happy Birthday, Rick!
