The Raiding of Riverdale: The Resistance Has Only Just Begun 1 (Photos)

Enclosed are two albums which chronicle the police raid at Riverdale Mobile Home community so that Aqua America/PVR can move in and construct a water withdrawal station for the frack industry. I am myself only just beginning to come to grips with what happened on this day. I will be blogging about these events over the next several days, and you can find these on the Raging Chicken Press website.

What I need to say right now is that I am deeply honored to have been included in this excellent community of Riverdale residents, activists, and morally conscious human beings. I have been changed forever by these 12 days, and I am pretty sure we all have.

Secondly, I need to make very clear that what has happened here is profoundly wrong. That a corporation like Aqua America can effectively deploy the power of the state in the form of armed police and the paid guns of a security company to forceably remove the GUESTS of the Riverdale residents should horrify us. Every American should be simply shitting themselves that this is possible HERE.

Third, I would encourage us not to forget that while Riverdale was first and foremost about the human rights of its residents, it is also about the rape of the environment for fracking.

Lastly, anyone who thinks that because we ended this beautiful example of what a democratic nonviolent protest by leaving when the residents asked is being foolish. This is just the beginning of an anti-fracking/human rights movement in PA–and everywhere else these egregious abuses occur.

Please post widely, please tag, please share. And please be patient–there are so many stories I need to try to tell.
