It’s PA Primary Day!!!! Woot! Looking forward to a long night of primary coverage and social media frenzy. It’s the first time in a long time that Pennsylvania has been relevant in the primaries…but here we are on April 26th and both the Republican and Democratic nominations are still in play. We’ll see on social media and Facebook live throughout the day.
Yesterday was a whirlwind media day for Raging Chicken Press. For those who subscribe to our Out d’Coup podcast, you already know that we had to record today’s episode a day early given the fact that our schedules are insane right now. Sean Kitchen spent the week presidential campaign event hopping and then spent the weekend working long hours at his paid gig as Harrisburg Beer Week kicked into full gear. On my end, I am going to be without a computer for a few days as my home improvement projects ramp up. Not only did we get the podcast recorded, we even went long to talk more about craft beer, citizen media, and what it’s like to cover a presidential primary. Check out the podcast here:
Not long after Sean and I finished recording the podcast, I was on the phone with Nate B. on the West Coast for an episode of his newly launched podcast, “Stressing the Point.” That was a special opportunity for me personally. Nate was a student activist I worked with during my first two years at Kutztown University. Nate showed up at my office door one day after hearing that I was involved with global justice activism. Nate wanted to start and organization and asked if I’d be the advisor. From that came several protests in the Lehigh Valley and NYC against going to war in Iraq; a coalition of student activist groups from Reading to Easton; and, joining with United Steelworkers Local 6996 for a road trip to Miami to join thousands of people to protest the Free Trade Area of Americas. That trip involved teargas.
Nate has been involved in the labor movement ever since. I was psyched that he asked me to be part of the launch of his new podcast. Nate and I talk about our activism, what experiences led us to become politically active, and the need for a strong citizen media. Check out his podcast and support one of Pennsylvania’s own who’s now organizing under the palm trees!
Shortly after I got off the phone with Nate it was off to pick up my kid at the bus stop and get ready for Raging Monday on the Rick Smith Show. Rick and I talked about raising kids to be active and engaged citizens, the Pennsylvania primary, and our hopes for progressive political organizing well beyond the 2016 election. Check it out right here:
Yes, it was a whirlwind…an awesome day of political talk. I can’t think of a better way to spend PA Primary Eve! Now, there is only one thing I want to leave you with: GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!!
