The aptly named “Hunt for Justice” is set to hold a fundraiser for a Central Pennsylvania police officer who shot an unarmed man two times in the back. In early February, Lisa Mearkle gained attention when she shot and killed David Kassidy.
According to the the St. Louis based Hunt for Justice’s website, the organization has held fundraisers for cops who have shot and killed unarmed men, most notably Officer Darren Wilson. The site stated the following:
Officer Darren Wilson was involved in an on-duty fatal shooting on August 9, 2014 in Ferguson, Mo which has resulted in him being forced to resign his position as a Ferguson, Mo Police Officer. Hunt For Justice supports Officer Wilson and stands with the Fraternal Order of Police in doing so.
Through fundraisers and online solicitations, Hunt For Justice was able to raise a significant amount of money to provide support to Officer Wilson and his family. Hunt For Justice is proud to say that they have reached across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico in support of Police Officers.
Supporting Officer Wilson is just another example of the defending police officers and their families every day.
The organization has also held fundraisers for three other St. Louis police officers who were Detective Dion Wilson, Detective Bill Rowe and Detective Chris Hunt who brutally beaten a meth cook. According to local reports, the officers illegally entered the home and used excessive force in making the arrest. Detective Hunt was sentenced to 5 years in prison for felony burglary and misdemeanor counts of “property damage and assault.” At the time, Wilson pleaded no contest and Rowe’s trial was still pending. The organization also represented a cop’s family after he was killed in the line of duty.
The Pig Roast is expected to draw 300-400 people and will be held at Chick’s Tavern in Hummelstown this Saturday.
