When speaking about the falling crime rates at a press conference earlier this week, Mayor Michael Nutter offered a thank you to someone who really doesn’t deserve a mayoral thank you. That person was Philadelphia Police Union President John McNesby. The small quib was mentioned in a Philadelphia Inquirer article that mentioned:
Nutter thanked Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey, police union leader John McNesby and firefighter union head Joe Schuley, as well as uniformed officers and anti violence community groups, praising their trust-building work in Philadelphia.
But did this loose cannon really deserve a mayoral thank you? I know. This post is over one sentence in your average news article, but besides verbally attacking protesters, having, maybe?, something to do with placing a provocative blogger and current photojournalist in a maximum security prison for months on end for a “threatening post,” freaking the fuck over a political cartoon, or getting Johnathan Josey his job back, what exactly has John McNesby done for the Philadelphia?
