#PAGov: PA Voters Against Fracking Welcome Tom Wolf as Democratic Nominee

At Tom Wolf’s acceptance speech last night in York, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Voters Against Fracking, the environmental group who has been following around the four democratic candidates for the past several months pushing for a statewide fracking moratorium, welcomed the democratic gubernatorial nominee at Santander Field.  Their message to Tom Wolf was simple, distinguish himself from Tom Corbett by supporting a statewide fracking moratorium.

According to the environmental organization, a dozen activists “held banners reading ‘Don’t Frack PA’ at multiple points in Wolf’s victory celebration.”  Pennsylvania Voters Against Fracking has held twenty events, and their previous action was their most memorable when environmental activist Liz Arnold interrupted the last debate by getting on stage and asking the candidates why won’t they support a statewide moratorium when the Democratic State Party committee endorsed the proposal.  On top of the Democratic Party’s endorsement for a moratorium, Pennsylvanians support a fracking moratorium.

When speaking about Tom Wolf’s nomination, Liz Arnold said “we congratulate Tom Wolf for his hard-fought victory today,” and continued with “we hope that Wolf can truly distinguish himself from Corbett on this issue of fracking by calling for what he knows the people of Pennsylvania want to see: a statewide halt to fracking.”  Food and Water Watch organizer Sam Bernhardt echoed the same sentiments.  Bernhardt stated “its important that we work to actualize the nickname ‘One Term Tom,’ and remove Tom Corbett from office, and tonight was an important step towards doing so,” and “it’s equally important we don’t get stuck with a different kind of ‘One Term Tom,’ with Democratic Nominee Wolf solely calling for a tax as a solution to fracking- its not.”
